Pilates for a back that hurts
If your back is the reason you are reading this, you are in the company of most people who walk into our studio for the first time. A desk, a long drive, a baby on one hip, a sport you stopped doing. The story changes. The tightness does not.
We teach private, one-on-one classical Pilates at 717 N Highland Ave, a block from the West Hollywood border. Every session is 55 minutes with one teacher and the whole studio. Nobody is watching or waiting for the equipment, and nothing happens without your okay.
What we actually do
Classical Pilates builds the muscles that hold your spine up from the inside: the deep abdominals, the muscles along the spine, the hips and the breath. On the Reformer and the Cadillac the springs support you while you learn to move from your center, so the work is precise before it is hard.
The first session is mostly listening. Your teacher watches how you stand, how you sit, how you breathe, and where you brace without noticing. Then the session is built around that. Some people leave their first hour taller. Most leave knowing something about their own body they did not know at 9am.
What we do not do
We are not physical therapists and we do not treat injuries. If you are in acute pain, have a recent diagnosis, or your doctor has told you to avoid certain movements, tell us on the call and we will work inside those limits or point you to the right person first. Many of our clients came to us after physical therapy ended and they wanted the strength to stay well. That is the work we are good at.
What clients notice
Roy came to us seeing a chiropractor and a physical therapist every week. Two years on he sees neither. Ellen writes that her balance is better and she is stronger. You can read both in full, and more, on our reviews page.
How to start
The door is a free 15-minute call with Yonatan. Tell him what your back has been doing and he will tell you honestly whether private Pilates is the right next step. If you already know you want to come in, book the $65 intro session. It is a real session, not a sales pitch, and it is refundable with 24 hours notice.
